McKinney Texas
McKinney
is a city in Collin County, Texas (USA), the county
seat and currently second in population to Plano. As
of the 2000 census, the city had a total population
of 54,396, but as of July 2006 the population has
grown to 104,411. In the next 20 years, the
population of the city will probabley top out
350,000. According to the census, McKinney was the
fastest growing city in the United States from 2000
to 2003 among cities larger than 50,000 people. This
growth is due to the fact that McKinney is currently
at the northeastern edge of the development in the
fast-growing suburbs north of Dallas. The city was
named after Collin McKinney (for whom the county is
also named), a signer of the Texas Declaration of
Independence, and a congressman for the Red River
district of the Republic of Texas.
McKinney is home to the Dallas Revolution, an
Independent Women's Football League team and is the
home of the Central Park Campus of the Collin County
Community College District, the first CCCCD campus
to open.
